Role Overview:

The Afterschool Academic Reading Coordinator leads a structured, research-based reading program for K–5 students. You’ll ensure literacy instruction is consistent, equitable, and responsive to student needs—supporting afterschool staff and volunteers in delivering high-quality instruction, assessments, and data-informed interventions.

This is a highly collaborative role working with multiple teams and locations across the metro Atlanta area.


Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum & Instruction:

  • Deliver a consistent, high-quality afterschool reading curriculum aligned with best practices and grade-level standards.
  • Train and support on-site staff and volunteers to implement instructional strategies confidently.
  • Support other subject areas and provide occasional in-person coverage at program sites.

Assessment & Data:

  • Coordinate and monitor the use of Amplify literacy assessments.
  • Analyze data to identify learning gaps and create targeted interventions.
  • Maintain accurate data records to track student reading growth and program outcomes.
  • Ensure assessments are scheduled, administered, and scored with integrity.

Volunteer & Staff Development:

  • Design and lead literacy-focused workshops and training sessions for staff and volunteers.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and instructional support in reading pedagogy.

Family & Community Engagement:

  • Coach parent liaisons to interpret and communicate academic data with families.
  • Support a holistic model that strengthens school-home-community partnerships.


What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (education or related field preferred).
  • Experience working with K–5 students in literacy, education, or enrichment settings.
  • Familiarity with English language learners or multicultural populations.
  • Working knowledge of K–5 literacy strategies and assessment tools (e.g. Amplify, DIBELS).
  • Ability to manage and interpret student data to guide instruction.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and training skills for adult learners.
  • Positive, collaborative, and flexible approach to problem-solving and teamwork.
  • Passion for community-based education and student success.


Additional Details:

  • This is a part-time, in-person role averaging 29 hours/week.
  • Required hours: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Monday–Thursday during the school year.
  • Occasional Friday hours are flexible and may include meetings or prep.
  • Attendance at weekly team check-ins, monthly staff meetings, and site visits is required.

  • Based out of Piedmont office | Supports all LaAmistad afterschool locations.
