The Lead Environment Engineer will assist the Director, Corporate Environmental Services in oversight of the implementation and ongoing improvement of environmental and land policies, maintaining consistency with Martin Marietta policies as well as compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The successful candidate will help to identify, and if approved, implement "Best Practices" to add value to the Company. Be a strategic partner to operations teams by defining and aligning environmental goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Support Martin Marietta's safety culture and regulatory compliance by adhering to Martin Marietta, OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations
  • Support continuous improvement in environmental and land policies through the development and maintenance of standards, metrics and best practices
  • Work with Director, Corp. Env. Services, operations management and other operation services groups to gather and distribute best practices across divisions for operational efficiency in environmental compliance and land management
  • Support internal site evaluation compliance assessments both through participation in onsite evaluations and review of completed evaluation reports
  • Assist Director Corp. Env. Services in environmental due diligence reviews of potential land and business acquisitions
  • Monitor and track compliance progress, identifying and addressing deviations and recommending reconciliation plans
  • Collaborate with Director Corp. Env. Services, operations and operations support teams on permitting and compliance activities
  • Provide creative solutions for permitting and compliance activities, as well as cost-effective options for operations management
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional operations and project teams to allow efficient environmental compliance performance
  • Support drafting of annual sustainability report by preparing and gathering content, reviewing calculations, reviewing documents, providing story leads, and reviewing draft report
  • Support annual SBTi updates through data gathering and analysis and responses to SBTi and consultant questions
  • Perform all activities in accordance with the Company's Mission, Vision and Values, and in compliance with the Company's policies, procedures and Code of Ethical Business Conduct
  • Trains other staff in the company on relevant environmental and land topics
  • Monitors changing environmental regulations and documents potential impacts for communication across the organization

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline preferred; will consider other STEM fields or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in environmental compliance roles
  • Experience in environmental compliance at aggregate quarries/mines, ready mix plants, and asphalt plants is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of GIS applications and Microsoft Office computer skills
  • Strong time management and judgment skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including report writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills; with the ability to work productively in both individual and group settings
  • Have demonstrated leadership skills in current or past roles
  • Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment required
  • Valid Driver's License; ability to drive and work in all weather conditions
  • Pass required background check, physical examination and drug screens
  • Proper use of PPE; Walking, climbing stairs and occasionally ladders, sitting and standing for extended periods
  • Ability to travel (both plane and car) 20-50%
