Job Summary:
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is a national not-for-profit association representing over 108,000 veterinarians. They are seeking a Corporate Communications Writer to create communication content that enhances the association’s image, supports communication strategies, and strengthens member and staff engagement.
Responsibilities:
• Create a variety of communication content for AVMA’s internal and external messaging efforts.
• Support execution of the AVMA’s communication strategies.
• Communicate the association’s brand and strengthen member and staff engagement.
• Support the Media Relations team, as needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in internal and external communications, including experience with the development, planning and implementation of strategic corporate communications programs; not-for-profit association experience is preferred
• Strong writing and editing skills, including speech-writing experience, are required, along with demonstrated business-to-customer writing ability
• Ability to synthesize information and write clearly, logically and persuasively on governance-related topics, as well as complex scientific topics for diverse scientific and non-scientific audiences
• Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and interacts effectively across many channels
• Strong project management experience, and handles multiple priorities and deadlines, functioning well autonomously and as a team member
• Basic computer software skills are required, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and various Web platforms, along with knowledge of various social media platforms
• Ability to conduct environmental scanning of critical issues
• Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, and travel on behalf of the AVMA (less than 5%), are required
