Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Provides exceptional dining experiences for our residents by delivering courteous and efficient service. Responsibilities include taking meal orders, serving food and beverages, and ensuring that residents' dietary preferences and restrictions are accommodated. Assist with setting up dining areas, clearing tables, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the dining room. Possess a friendly demeanor, attention to detail, and commitment to resident satisfaction in contributing to a positive dining atmosphere and enhancing the overall quality of life for the residents.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a minimum of sixteen (16) years of age.
  • Must possess, at a minimum, a 10th grade education, have completed a similar educational level or have sufficient work experience to meet the position’s requirements.

  • Ability to write down resident requests and communicate these to other culinary staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Takes resident (s) meal orders and serves meals correctly and efficiently.
  • Take ownership to ensure residents and guests dining experience exceeds expectations.
  • Assists residents to make selections at the cafeteria line, places food on trays and carries trays to resident’s tables.
  • Sets tables with napkins and tableware. Refills condiments and salt and pepper shakers.
  • Sets up and keeps salad and dessert counter supplied. Makes coffee, tea, juices, and stocks coffee bar.
  • Clears table and buses dishes to dish room.
  • Cleans dining room tables and chairs and vacuums dining room.
  • Delivers trays to rooms of ill residents.
  • Prepares and/or pre-portion food (such as beverages, salads, desserts, and other items assigned by the supervisor) for regular and therapeutic diets according to the planned menu and production sheets and as directed.
  • Handles food using proper food handling and food safety techniques according to established policies and procedures.
  • Maintains the proper temperature of food during preparation and service. Records food temperatures according to established policy.
  • Assists with the setup of the tray line. Assembles trays according to the planned menu and tray tickets, stated portion, resident food preferences, and diet order and within the established time schedules. Assists in checking trays during service for accuracy.
  • Loads trays onto food carts, delivers trays carts to dining areas and resident units, and may deliver trays to residents depending upon facility policy.
  • Reports resident food refusal, acceptance, or concerns to the supervisor.
  • Prepares and delivers snacks to Nursing Units as scheduled.
  • Uses food, supplies, and equipment in an efficient and economic manner to prevent waste.
  • Labels, dates, and stores food properly according to established policies.
  • Performs assigned cleaning assignments according to established policies and utilizes the proper cleaning chemicals. Keeps work areas clean and uncluttered during meal preparation and service.
  • Ensures that dishes are readily available for the next meal. Stores dishes in the proper location in a way to prevent contamination.
  • Assists in receiving, storage, and verifying invoices for incoming food and supplies, as indicated by the supervisor. Reports inadequate stock levels to the supervisor in a timely manner. Ensures that food storage areas are kept clean and well organized.
  • Ensures that food is served in an attractive, appetizing manner. Uses proper tasting technique to insure quality taste and palatability prior to service.
  • Assists in the preparation and service of food for team members and special events as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate a courteous, polite, and friendly attitude with residents, families, and visitors.
  • Demonstrates active listening techniques, gains support through effective relationships, treats others with dignity and respect and seeks feedback.
  • Attends in-services and educational programs and attends continuing education as required.
  • Respond to the needs of residents, families and visitors by providing immediate assistance.
  • Function as a member of the team, assisting and supporting co-workers as needed.
  • Use personal protective equipment when at risk of exposure to blood or other potentially hazardous body fluids and all other times indicated by facility policies and procedures.
  • Reports any signs of rodent or pest infestation to the supervisor immediately.
  • Familiarize self with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Universal Worker Precautions for all housekeeping chemicals and cleaning supplies.
  • Reports injury to self and others to supervisor immediately.
  • Participants in the facility’s Quality Improvement program, as directed.
  • Comply with all documentation policies/procedures.
  • Use proper body mechanics when bending or lifting.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with the community’s Infection Prevention policies and procedures.
  • Know the community’s disaster and fire safety policies and procedures, including the location and correct use of the fire alarm system.
  • Perform all duties according to policy in a professional manner.
  • Comply with community attendance policies.
  • Comply with community dress code policies.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and/or in-service programs.

  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position which includes adherence to strict time constraints.
  • Able to physically assist senior living residents with their activities of daily living.

EXPOSURE RISKS:

  • Is subject to potential exposure to infectious waste, disease, conditions, etc., including but not limited to, TB, HIV and Hepatitis B.
