The Immigration Clinic and Human Rights Clinic are part of Miami Law’s dynamic clinical program in which law students work on cases and projects. Our clinics are taught by faculty who are experts and trailblazers in their field. Under close faculty supervision, students function as the lead lawyers responsible for all aspects of cases and projects. The Immigration Clinic advocates on behalf of immigrants in a wide variety of complex immigration proceedings. The Human Rights Clinic works for the promotion of social and economic justice globally and in the U.S. through litigation and advocacy at the local, national, regional, and international levels.

The senior manager, programs oversees the day-to-day management of the two law clinics within the law school and works to ensure the successful implementation of all educational initiatives, such as student registration, course management, clinic cases and projects, program events, communications, and finances. Furthermore, the senior manager, programs serves as the liaison between faculty and the various administrative systems at the university. The manager will work in collaboration with a team that includes law professors, senior managers, and support staff.

JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                              

Students

• Serves as main point of contact for students on administrative matters and remains available to assist with inquiries.
• Trains and supervises law students on office procedures and case management, including Clio, Shared Drives, and clinic emails.
• Provides day-to-day guidance and support to law student clinical interns on various issues related to managing case work.
• Coordinates student recruitment and registration for the law clinics.

Clinic Seminar, Cases & Projects

• Provides assistance and academic support to clinical faculty.
• Serves as the paralegal to the law clinics, including but not limited to communicating with clients, judges, and the legal community, assisting with court filings and legal documents, and assisting with the client intake process.
• Develops, organizes, and maintains the filing systems for seminar classes and a large volume of clinic clients.
• Manages the law clinics’ electronic case management and online platforms, including Clio, Box, Blackboard, and WorkDay.

Program Events & Visitors

• Coordinates logistics for program events and activities, liaising with the law school’s events team.
• Coordinates meetings with faculty, students, clients, and community stakeholders.
• Coordinates guest visits, including with clients, guest speakers, and visiting faculty.

Communications

• Updates the website and social media platforms.
• Develops and maintains program listservs.
• Supports additional program communications, including informational brochures, newsletters, and social media.

Finances

• Assists with managing the program budget by monitoring expenditures.
• Processes program expenditures and coordinates with the law school’s finance team.
• Checks, verifies, organizes, and prepares grants, procurement, and other program relevant documents.
• Assists with applications and accountability for external grants, including coordination with the Office of Research Administration and law school’s finance team; monitoring and reconciling expenditures, and preparing supporting documents.

Other

• Serves as a liaison between the law clinics and all law school departments.
• Works with other departments to increase program awareness.
• Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
• Prepares, maintains, and reports on program effectiveness.
• Ensures compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
• Stays abreast of market trends and legislation impacting program functions.
• Maintains office space and supplies, technological repairs, IT/AV/Facilities requests, and Canon service requests.
• Serves as the point of contact for the UReady Emergency Clinical Plans (creation, semester updates, and meetings).
• Identifies new needs and emerging issues and develops new programs, initiatives, and resources.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                   

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required, Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred.

Certification and Licensing:

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

• Knowledge of business and management principles.
• Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
